Ingredients:

  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp molasses
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Combine the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and molasses in a medium saucepan. Whisk vigorously until the brown sugar has completely dissolved and the mixture is a uniform, deep red color.
  2. Turn the heat to medium until the sauce reaches a gentle bubble, then immediately reduce the heat to low.
  3. Stir in the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
  4. Let the sauce simmer uncovered for 45–60 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching, until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon in a velvety layer.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat, adjust seasoning if necessary, and allow the sauce to cool to room temperature before transferring it to an airtight glass jar.
