Ingredients:
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbsp molasses
- 1 tsp liquid smoke (hickory)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions:
- Add the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and molasses to a medium saucepan. Whisk vigorously over medium heat until the sugar granules have completely dissolved and the mixture is a uniform, dark red color.
- Stir in the liquid smoke, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Lower the heat to a gentle simmer.
- Let the sauce bubble softly for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and transitions into a deep mahogany hue.
- Remove the pan from the heat. Taste the sauce; if it is too sharp, add one extra tablespoon of brown sugar; if it is too sweet, add a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Let cool slightly before bottling.
